Emirates flying to Ukraine daily

Yesterday, 17 Jan,2014, Emirates launched its daily scheduled route to Kiev, Ukraine. This is the first route Emirates serves to Ukraine, which bring the total European destinations to 34. The flights are EK 171 Scheduled to depart at 1710 from Dubai and arrive at 2030 in Kiev and EK 172 Scheduled to depart at 2205 from Kiev and arrive at 0445 the next day in Dubai.

Emirates will use the Airbus A340-500 on this route, but this might change soon because Emirates started retiring its A340 fleet. The first flight was flown with A6-ERG. On board were many VIP passengers including Thierry Antinori, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Emirates; Thierry Aucoc, Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations for Europe and Russian Federation, Emirates; Abdul Salam Hareb Al Romaithi, UAE Ambassador to the Ukraine; Hiran Perera, Senior Vice President, Cargo Planning and Freighters, Emirates SkyCargo and many other Ambassadors and company presidents from UAE and Ukraine. On arrival at Kyiv Boryspil International Airport, the plane was met by a senior delegation from the Ukraine, which was followed by a welcome reception and gift exchange ceremony at the airport.

“We are very positive about our new service between Kiev and Dubai, and we believe this daily air link will further stimulate the growing business and tourism opportunities between both cities,“ said Thierry Antinori, Emirates Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer.
“Over 150,000 Ukrainians a year visit the UAE and we know Dubai is a popular choice for Ukrainians, who appreciate the world-class accommodation, dining and entertainment venues, warm weather and clean sandy beaches. Now they will have greater choice - access to Emirates award-winning service and gourmet food and for the first time on this route a First Class cabin option.”

Travellers will also be able to connect, via Emirates hub in Dubai, to a global network of over 130 destinations together with an extensive Australian network courtesy of the airline’s partnership with Qantas. It is expected that this new route will add between 130,000 to 150,000 additional passengers.

Passengers on every Emirates A340-500 can enjoy 12 luxurious private suites in First Class, 42 reclining Business Class seats and plenty of room to relax in Economy Class, with a total of 204 seats. Passengers in all classes can lose themselves in the multiple award-winning ice entertainment system, with hundreds of channels of on-demand entertainment to choose from, including movies from around the world, TV channels, audio channels, video games and news, sports and business headlines.

In addition to passengers, Emirates is focusing on cargo as both countries import goods from each other and because Emirates uses wide body airplanes, it is possible to ship large amount of goods. “Cargo holds 17 per cent to 18 per cent share in our revenue and we are expecting a similar share on this route too,” Hiran Perera, Senior Vice President Cargo Planning and Freighters, Emirates Sky Cargo.
